  Castor oil is composed primarily of fatty acids, which give it its thick, rich texture and emollient properties:

  • Ricinoleic Acid (≈85–90%) – a unique monounsaturated fatty acid responsible for castor oil’s thick consistency and moisturizing effect.

  • Oleic Acid (≈3–6%) – helps improve spreadability and provides a smooth, conditioning feel.

  • Linoleic Acid (≈3–5%) – an essential fatty acid that supports the skin’s natural barrier.

  • Stearic Acid (≈1–2%) – adds richness and stability to formulations.

  • Palmitic Acid (≈1%) – a naturally occurring saturated fatty acid that contributes to texture and emollience.
